On behalf of Dr Gareth Headdock, Science and Technology Director, NNL
NNL is currently welcoming proposals from university academics for access to a range of equipment at our Central Laboratory in Cumbria. This is an exciting opportunity for academics to support advanced nuclear fuel and recycle research and contribute to the NNL-led, Government-funded Advanced Fuel Cycle Programme (AFCP).
The call is open from 10th July to 7th August 2020 for experiments to be performed during the period of September 2020 to March 2021. The available equipment offered in this first call, procured as part of the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), National Nuclear User Facility (NNUF) and the Henry Royce Institute (HRI) initiatives, is:
- FIB-SEM,
- PFIB with ToF-SIMS,
- (S)TEM with EDS and EELS,
- X-ray CT and
- Fumehood/Glovebox Raman
NNL will cover facility and equipment costs, including supervising the experiments and equipment usage. The attached document provides full information, including funding details, selection criteria, project scheduling and more detailed descriptions of the equipment. This document also contains the proposal form, which should be completed and submitted to the NNL User Access Team (access.liaison@uknnl.com) via email by 23:59 on 7th August.
If you are granted access to NNL facilities as part of the 2020 “Advanced Nuclear Fuels and Recycle” call, you will be eligible to apply to the NNUF user access scheme for reimbursement of reasonable costs for T&S and sample transport not covered by NNL. Please see the NNL page of this website for more details.
